The official launching of the
Small Malaita Youth for Change Futsal League was held at Riverside community on
the 22nd of April 2017.
A statement from the SMC Office
said that the plan is to pilot the league in Zone 9 and the surrounding
communities and depending on its outcome and available resources it may be
extended to other zones with the introduction of the open category.
The statement said that the participating
teams were grateful to the Member of Parliament for Small Malaita Constituency
Hon Rick Hou for initiating the league to be present as the Guest of Honour for
the launching program.
The Youth Volunteer Scheme
Coordinator, Mr Max Lae who is the chairman of the organising committee
confirmed that the league games are scheduled for every Saturday which it is
expected to continue to the end of the year. The participating teams are from
Riverside, Matangasi, Tapa’atewa Ruru’uhe, Rorongo and Sarawasi.
He said that the launching program
started with a colourful parade in which all teams participated. After the
parade a special procession was led by the Luelape Pan pipers to escort Hon
Rick Hou and other invited guests to the stage. There were speeches given and
later Hon Hou gave the key note address and officially opened the 2017 youth
for change futsal league by cutting off the ribbon followed by the presentation
of four futsal balls to the participating teams.

reminded the team members that the league rules and guidelines are based on
Christian principles and values.
The launching was concluded with a
refreshment followed by two demonstration matches. The launching was very
successful, thanks to Hon. Rick Hou for his active involvement in Youth
programs such as sports.
