Small Malaita Constituency will be
hosting the “YAM CULTURAL FESTIVAL next year 2016. This major cultural event
was initiated by Hon. Rick Hou MP and passed
by the Small Malaita AALA NI ALAHA House of Chiefs at its meeting held on 27th
July 2015, at Afio.
Representatives from Small
Malaita Constituency office and the Festival Organising Committee also attended
the two days meeting. The cost of the meeting was met by the Small Malaita
Constituency office
At the meeting the Small Malaita AALA
House of Chiefs approved
a. The name of the Festival as the Small Malaita “ YAM” Cultural
Festival ,
b. The dates for the Festival from Sunday 24th
July – Wednesday 27th July
2016
c. The Festival venue to be at “ PULULAHA ”, Small Malaita
The Festival Coordinator took the
opportunity to meet with Land owners and chiefs of Pululaha village who offered
their land for the Festival village and cultural Festival activities will take place.
Also the appointed Architect has already
collected all data’s and technical details of the site, and other requirements
for the design of the Festival village and proposed activities.
After the chiefs meeting the Festival
Coordinator facilitated the establishment of a Festival Home Base working
committee to carry out all general logistics in preparation for the Festival in
2016.
All meetings concluded very successfully.
The Chairman of the Small Malaita AALA
House of Chiefs was full of praise for the MP to initiate the idea. All the
Chiefs welcomed the initiative and are very supportive of the event. As soon as
funding is available clearance and all physical ground works of the Festival
site will start.
In a Statement Hon. Rick Hou MP
acknowledged Small Malaita AALA NI ALAHA House of Chiefs, the Chiefs and land
owners of Pululaha for their great effort. Honourable Rick Hou MP reiterated that the event
belongs to the AALA NI ALAHA House of chiefs and is for the people of Small
Malaita Constituency. “The support from
the AALA House of Chiefs and land owners underpins this objective” said
Honourable Hou.
