Afio Area Health
Centre in Small Malaita received a consignment of medical supplies on 31st
July 2015, thanks to the active involvement of the local Member of Parliament.
In a statement,
the Small Malaita Constituency Office said that the consignment which consist
of stretchers, beds, linen, wheel chairs, cabinets, tables, chairs and other
medical equipments were donated by a group in USA following a request by Hon.
Rick Hou last year.
The statement said
that the handing over of the medical supplies was officiated by the Small
Malaita Constituency officers and nursing staff at Afio Area Health Centre.
Also present at the small ceremony was the chairman of the Council of Chiefs
Timothy Laesanau and the residents at Afio as well as patients at the Health
Centre.
Representing the
Small Malaita Constituency Office was the Constituency Project Officer. In his
handing over remarks, Mr. Roy Hou highlighted that the Health sector is a
priority in the Small Malaita Constituency plan which Hon. Rick Hou is pursuing
under his mandate. He said this is on-going as evident after the successful
completion of the new staff house early this year. He further stressed that
Hon. Hou will continue to support the health centre to upgrade it towards
hospital status in line with the SMC Development Plan.
The nurse
in-charge at Afio Health Centre thanked the MP for Small Malaita Constituency
Hon. Rick Hou for his continuous support towards the Health Centre and promised
that her staffs will look after these equipment so that they will benefit the
future generations and a legacy to remember the support by Hon Rick Hou during
his time as Member of Parliament for Small Malaita Constituency. She concluded
by asking the Project Officer to convey the sick patients’ acknowledgement to
Hon. Rick Hou as they are the first patients to use the supplies as of today.
Hon. Hou further
assured the staff of Afio AHC and his people that he is placing another request
for donations from friends in USA for medical supplies.
