This project features quite prominently in our long term development plans. The objective is todevelop and secure a sustainable energy source to support the development of the Afio economic growth center, as well as for the island as a whole. Given its nature, as well as its intended size, it is important to know that this
project will need long lead time, hence the need to start now. Under the SMC development plans, it is expected that once a suitable site is ascertained, work on developing this project may take the next ten years. Our plans for this project have been handed to the Provincial Government and the ministry of Infrastructure Development. Some initial contacts have been made with some land owning groups late last year and further community awareness were made during the quarter. It is hoped that these initial contacts will be maintained and that in due time alternatives can be found for the development of this very vital long term project. Community leaders and resource owners must be made aware of all aspects of this project and that it is very early days in a project which is expected to take a long time to develop.
