The SMC Office has issued a statement that the Member of
Parliament for Small Malaita Constituency, Hon. Rick Hou had met with the premier
of Malaita Province during his constituency tour last month. The statement said
the meeting was not only as a courtesy call on the Premier but most importantly
to discuss the major development projects in Malaita Province and more
especially those projects that have been earmarked for the southern region,
including Small Malaita.
The statement confirmed that there were a number of major
development projects earmarked for the southern region which include the Afio
Regional Hospital, the Parasi Airport, Police Station and Court House just to
name a few. The statement highlighted that in the past, the southern region has
been left out in terms of development at the provincial level, thanks to the
active involvement of the Member of Parliament for Small Malaita constituency
and the Premier for Malaita Province for their support.
In a statement, the SMC office said that this is not the
first time for both leaders to have dialogue. The statement said that they have
been doing this over the past years since they came into power. Both leaders
have expressed strong collaboration on these projects and to continue
cooperation in the future. This good relationship that was established between
the two leaders for the development of the Southern Region has resulted in some
of the major development projects already progressing well.
